As dictated by the state-based alcohol regulatory system, Maine beer and wine
distributors also facilitate the collection of the excise and premium taxes
Maine imposes on the industry. Maine distributors contributed approximately
$13.8 million in excise and premium taxes to Maine’s general fund in
2008.
The industry has a multiplier effect on a vast array of other sectors within
the state, including the many service industries that support distributors
and their workforce. When the revenue generated from these sectors is considered,
the overall economic impact of the beer and wine industry increases many times
over.
