AUGUSTA, Maine - The Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association (MBWDA) has partnered with Olympian Julia Clukey to create two public service announcements (PSAs) leading up to New Year's Day. The PSAs are part of the ongoing responsibility initiative by the MBWDA to communicate that alcohol is a unique product that requires regulation and responsibility. The PSAs will air on Blueberry Broadcasting stations, Atlantic Coast Radio stations, plus community and college stations across the state.

Both PSAs feature Maine Olympian and member of the U.S. National Luge Team, Julia Clukey sharing the value of time with friends and family, but also the importance of responsibility. Near the end of each 30 second PSA, she reminds listeners that if you are going to drink, designate a driver, and if you are under 21, it is illegal to purchase or consume alcohol.
"We all have a lot going on this time of year, especially with holiday gatherings and family festivities. The two PSAs are reminders to all of us that the most important thing this season is spending time with friends and family. I would like to wish all Mainers a happy and healthy 2012," said Julia Clukey.
Over the last two years, Clukey has partnered with the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association as part of their responsibility initiative by recording public service announcements, making radio and television show appearances, and speaking at local high schools to talk with students about the importance of good decision making.
Clukey, 26, from Augusta, is training this winter in Lake Placid, New York for her 2011-2012 World Cup season and is in Maine this week to be with family during the holidays.
"This week, Julia has very been busy helping to spread our message about responsibility by appearing on television and radio shows around the state to remind us all about the importance of responsibility and to promote her availability for high school presentations this spring. I know she is excited about what is ahead in 2012 and our member distributors are too," said Nick Alberding, president of the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association.
The PSAs are currently airing on a variety of college and community radio stations across Maine. Next week, the New Year's PSA will air on Blueberry Broadcasting (Augusta, Bangor and Rockland) stations including WABK 104.3 FM, WKSQ 94.5 FM, WLKE 99.1 FM, WMCM 103.3 FM, WBFB 104.7 FM, WTOS 105.1 FM, WTQX 96.7 FM, WQSS 102.5 FM, WVQM 101.3 FM, WTUX 101.1 FM and WVOM 103.9 FM. The same PSA will also air on Atlantic Coast Radio (Westbrook and Gray) stations WJJB 1440 AM/96.3 FM and WLOB 1310 AM/95.5 FM.
