Summer Grilling Safety Tips
Did you know? Outdoor grilling accidents account for 7,900 home fires and 19,000 emergency room visits each year. We encourage you to be responsible and review the following tips to keep you and your guests safe this summer.
Fire. Make sure you have a fire extinguisher available and you are familiar with how it works. One person should always be in charge of the grill at all times.
Food Safety. Bacteria grows on all food, so make sure you cover everything and put the appropriate food in the refrigerator.
Location. Ensure that your grill is away from your home, garage or other structure. Also, be sure to look overhead to see if there are any obstructions such as wires or tree branches.
Gas Safety. The number one cause of gas grill fires is a block in the fuel path. Inspect your grill regularly before use to make sure there are no potential problems.
Charcoal Safety. Lighting the charcoal is a dangerous job. Reading the instructions for igniting the charcoal is an important step to prevent injury. Lighter fluid is often a dangerous way to start up your grill. Be careful.
