RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Red Wine Cake

Friends,

Cheryl TimberlakeFINALLY! We have sunshine, warmer temperatures and the Red Sox have reached the 500 mark. This was hard to imagine just a few weeks ago. How time does change things- hopefully for the better.

As we reach the end of May, and head into the official start of the summer season in Maine, it is important to remember that Responsibility Matters and we must put safety first.

Memorial Day is a wonderful holiday to be with family and friends and thank our veterans. It is also a great time to be on the water, boating, fishing, grilling and campfires.  All these outdoor activities remind us to be safe and if alcohol is part of your celebrations, please be responsible. As you will see from the news below, this is a message Olympian Julia Clukey has helped us share with young people across the state. We are very proud of Julia and her commitment to our responsibility initiative.

This Memorial Day, please take time to say thank you to our servicemen and women and be respectful of their sacrifices.

Sincerely,

Cheryl Timberlake
Executive Vice President
Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association

Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association Partners with WABI-TV to Promote Responsibility

Recently, the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association announced a partnership with WABI-TV 5 to promote responsibility in Maine during the prom and graduation season to support two local television programs and produce public service announcements featuring Olympian Julia Clukey.

"This is a very exciting time for high school students and there are lots of decisions they will face in the coming weeks. As a student at Cony, I can remember making a lot of decisions during this time of year, so I am proud to be a part of the MBWDA's responsibility initiative and help support students to make good decisions," said Olympian Julia Clukey.

Julia Clukey will be a big part of the partnership with WABI-TV. She has recorded two television public service announcements that will debut during the two shows and air through the end of May. She has also recorded a PSA for radio that will air in June on several radio stations in Maine.

Olympian Julia Clukey Spreads Message of Responsibility in Maine Schools

In May, as part of the Maine Beer & Wine Distributors Association's ongoing responsibility initiative, Olympian Julia Clukey visited Carrabassett Valley Academy and Mt. View High School to share her personal presentation about responsibility and good decision making.

The presentations included a motivational four minute video about her luge career and 2010 Olympic experience in Vancouver.

During the presentations, she shared her personal experiences growing up in Maine, including the decisions she made and the adversity and pressures she faced in high school. Following the assemblies, she answered questions from the teenage audiences and later spoke individually with many of them as she signed autographs.

Olympian Julia Clukey will be visiting South Portland High School on May 31, Biddeford High School on June 1 and St. Michael School in Augusta on June 7. To schedule a presentation from Olympian Julia Clukey, click here

Federal Distributors Recognized for Commitment to
Workplace Safety

Federal Distributors staff was presented with the SHARP Award from the SafetyWorks! program of the Maine Department of Labor.

Federal Distributors staff was presented with the SHARP Award from the SafetyWorks! program of the Maine Department of Labor.

The Maine Department of Labor has recognized Federal Distributors for the company's ongoing commitment to providing a safe and healthy work environment through its SafetyWorks! program. At the ceremony announcing the distinction, Department of Labor officials presented Federal Distributors with a Safety and Health Award Recognition Program certificate of achievement.

The Federal Distributors Safety Committee and Vice President of Human Resources, Rita Amand, have prioritized safety measures over the past two years by enforcing high standards of employee safety and health programs in the Lewiston-based facility.

The Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program offers incentives to private sector employers that make a commitment to workplace safety. The SHARP certificates are awarded to employers that host a health and safety consultation visit, correct all hazards, adopt appropriate health and safety management systems, and agree to future consultative visits.
