MBWD’s Economic Impact

As a thriving, sustainable industry that’s been around for more than 80 years, we are important supporters of the overall Maine economy, the local small business economy, and the Maine workforce.

MBWD members distribute beverages to thousands of Maine retailers. These range from convenience stores to local restaurants and taverns to grocery stores as well as many hotels, motels and sports venues that serve the state’s enormous tourism industry. The total retail value of these sales is between $800 million and $1 billion each year and helps to support thousands of jobs at these establishments.

Distributors support tourism in Maine

Tourism is the number one industry in Maine. Distributors share an important role in attracting tourists to Maine by offering the highly respected and nationally recognized restaurants in Maine a wide variety of local and national beer and wine labels. The local distributors work hard to ensure the restaurants and bars can offer the quality and choice they need to satisfy their customers, including the local foodies as well as the millions of tourists from around the world.
